The head of the North American division of the International Gemological Institute (IGI) since 1991 Jerry Ehrenwald, is leaving the lab to launch a trading platform for lab-grown diamonds, according to a story in jckonline.com
Ehrenwald was initiated into the diamond business while at school, working for his father, a diamond sawyer. And after college, he continued cutting and sawing, to learn the trick of the trade.
Joining IGI in1981, Ehrenwald rose to head the North American division a decade later. Later in 1984, Ehrenwald and Carl B. Miller Jr. received a patent for using lasers to engrave permanent marks inside a diamond.
